I Thessalonians 1:1
Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which
is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and
peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Often names are
different in different languages. The English name, John is Jean in French.
Peter in English is Pedro in Spanish. What do you think the Greek name is for
the Roman name, Timotheus? That’s right, Timothy. And the Roman name, Silvanus
is Greek for Silas. So here we have Paul, Silas, and Timothy writing to the
church in Thessalonica in Greece. Paul’s missionary visit to Thessalonica is
found in Acts 17. And this letter to the church that he founded in Thessalonica
was probably the first of the New Testament books written by Paul. Paul loved
his dear friends in Thessalonica and sent this great letter to them. And what
is Paul’s form of greeting? It is filled with grace and peace. How wonderful to
have the grace and peace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! And how
wonderful to have it bestowed upon someone by the Apostle Paul!
