II Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Have you noticed that school
work is hard work? You have to concentrate and think of different ways to
remember things that you read. As a matter of fact, Paul says that studying the
Bible is like being a workman who builds something. The workman makes a plan,
gathers the materials, and carefully builds what he is going to build. And should
make a plan if we are to study God’s Word. We must read the words and figure
them out. We should ask, “Who is writing this verse? Who are they writing it
to? What is the occasion of the writing? What do the words say? What do the
words mean to me?” This seems complicated, and it is! But remember, it’s hard
work to study the Bible. But it’s worth it! When a builder finishes building a
house, he can stand back and admire his work. And when we take the time to
study God’s Word, we will be satisfied. We are good workmen.
