Shaking Up

I like to look at the snow globes at Cracker Barrell.  They are so beautiful with the tiny family and the miniature scenery.  And they look so much more beautiful when I shake them up and see the snow falling all around that cute little scene.  But imagine how the little family inside that snow globe feels every time their world is shaken up?  Everything has just settled down and suddenly, everything is shaken up again!  Hey, sometimes that is how God works.  Life is going good, we “settle down”, we become complacent.  We drift away from spending time with God.  We forget to read His Words in the Bible.  We forget to talk to God in prayer.  So, God has to “shake up our world” by sending adversity.  We wake up, flat on our backs in the hospital and can do nothing but pray to God.  The transmission goes out in the car and we must pray to God for help to make ends meet.  Here’s a novel idea: spend time with God BEFORE He has to shake up our world.  If we stay close to God, maybe He won’t have to shake up our world!  The story is told of the grandmother who sent her granddaughter a check at college.  But when the girl looked at the check, grandma had forgotten to sign it.  So, when the girl was home on break, she took the check over to her grandmother’s and said, “Grandma, you forgot to sign the check that you sent me.”  The grandmother replied with a twinkle in her eye, “I know I didn’t.  So good to see you, my dear.”
