We are in a new era - the era of Google. We have so much information at our fingertips. The other day, my wife and I were at her sister’s house, and we were reminiscing about Krystal’s, White Castle, and Top Hat restaurants. Someone said, “How much is a Krystal hamburger now? I’ll bet the price has gone up.” Without missing a beat, I said, “Alexa, how much does a Krystal hamburger cost in Ringgold, GA?” And in two seconds, she was spouting out information! Hey, it’s not information that we need; it’s discernment. We don’t need more information, nor do we need quicker access to that information, we need to know how to apply that information to make us better people. James 1:22 says, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” With Google and Alexa, we have the false confidence that we know everything. But our world isn’t getting better; it’s getting darker. We need the mind of God and the discernment of God to become people of character. Try this today: instead of saying. “Hey, Google …” try opening your Bible and turning to the book of Proverbs. If you want to use an electronic Bible, that’s OK, but just use the Words of God, and not the words of Google! One can give you information, but one can give you character. Or say, “Alexa, read me Proverbs chapter seven.” Good information.
