20 Ton Culvert

My dad got tired of working in manufacturing dealing with bosses above him and workers below him.  So he passed his CDL license test and drove an 18-wheeler for five years.  One fall, he delivered cases of empty glass to a canning factory and picked up cases filled with applesauce.  But on the small country road, he encountered a 20-ton culvert.  He couldn’t back up his tractor-trailer for two miles, so he drove over the culvert.  A state patrolman was waiting for him and gave him a $1500 ticket!  Since it was over $1,000, a conviction would mean a felony and jail time!  Dad hired a lawyer, who maneuvered and litigated running up a considerable bill.  Finally, my dad drove an empty trailer to the offending culvert and took pictures.  The culvert was only 18” in diameter and at no time could the front wheels, drive wheels, or trailer wheels be on the culvert at the same time.  Although his rig total weight was 80,000 pounds, there was never more than 27,000 pounds on the 40,000 pound culvert at one time.  The case was dismissed, not because of a sharp lawyer, but because of simple logic and pictures.  Job said in Job 12:13, “With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.”  Some lawyers are wise with good understanding.  But some lawyers are just talkers and use big words in an attempt to confuse people.  Hey, today, don’t try to intimidate people and belittle people; try to work WITH people.  You will get much more done … and people will like you much more.
