Discernment

Discernment is a good word … but it’s not in the Bible.  But the principle of discernment is all throughout the Bible.  Solomon said in Proverbs 18:15, “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.”  You need to be both prudent and wise when you drive in Chattanooga.  Yes, you do!  Each morning TDOT has changed lanes, painted new lines, and moved barricades.  And as a driver you must be discerning.  When you come home to find that you left the hamburger meat on the counter all day, you must be discerning.  When your wife asks questions, don’t be cavalier; be careful how you answer her.  Your words can build up or your words can cut down.  When you answer questions in your Sunday school class (small group) at church, be discerning in what you say, how you say it, and how long you go on and on when you say it.  Remember, you don’t have to speak on every topic.  So, today, be wise; be prudent; and be discerning.

A wise old owl lived in an oak

The more he saw the less he spoke.

The less he spoke the more he heard.

Why can't we be like that wise old bird?
