II Chronicles 11:13-15
And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of
all their coasts. For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and
came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from
executing the priest's office unto the LORD: And he ordained him priests for
the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made. Jeroboam
didn’t want his people to go down to Jerusalem to worship at the Temple of God,
so he started pagan idolatry. He wanted everyone to stay loyal to himself. The
Levites who were distributed throughout Israel left and moved to Judah and to
Jerusalem. Jeroboam lost many good men and Jeroboam lost their good influence
upon his people. We need good men to remind us of God and of the right ways to
live. Too bad, Jeroboam. You led your people wrong.
