In 1962 I had a friend who lived down the road from me about two miles. Actually, Richard is still a good friend of mine, but now he lives about a hundred miles “down the road” from me. Living behind Richard in a tiny shack was Stanley Wojack, an old man with a vile mouth. Richard’s dad wanted to get Stanley away from his family, so he bought Stanley’s property. But Stanley had a clever backup plan. He got a farmer to drag his shack fifty feet back and off his property line and into the woods. So Stanley still lived there. With the money from the sale of the property, Stanley stayed drunk for several months and was more vile than he had ever been. How sad! Solomon said in Proverbs 13:7, “There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing …” Stanley’s windfall didn’t last very long and soon he was right back where he had been. At least, he was a good lesson for me - of what not to be like.
