I Samuel 26:5,7,8
And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld
the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host:
and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him. So David
and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within
the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the
people lay round about him. Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered
thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray
thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the
second time. A second time, God delivered Saul right into David’s hand. And
a second time, David would not lift his hand against God’s anointed king. David
was patient and determined to wait for God to depose of the king. David knew
that two wrongs do not make one right. Just because Saul was evil did not give
David permission to murder him and take over his throne. David knew that he
would be king someday - in God’s own time.
This is a blog that I have created for my 5 grandchildren. I have a daily Scripture verse or two along with comments and questions. Hope this encourages young people to read in their Bible every day and to meditate on God's Word.

I Samuel 25:14,15
I Samuel 25:14,15
But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent
messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed on them.
But the men were very good unto us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any
thing, as long as we were conversant with them, when we were in the fields.
David and his 400 men had been protecting Nabal’s shepherds from the
Philistines for some time. David reminded Nabal and asked Nabal to give them a
little food for their work. But Nabal was a rude man and replied rudely to
David’s men. When David heard of it, he was furious! He made plans to go down
and wipe them all out! But one of the young men told Nabal’s wife Abigail. And
she was a lot smarter than her husband. She gathered some supplies and
intercepted David. David softened when Abigail spoke to him. She was
understanding. She was diplomatic; not like her crude husband. David calmed
down and thanked Abigail for her good words. David said, “You have just stopped
me from doing something that I would have later regretted. Nabal was rude, but
that is no reason to kill someone.” God had protected David through Abigail.
Has God ever protected you from doing something dumb? Let’s talk about it.

I Samuel 24:3-6
I Samuel 24:3-6 And
he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to
cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. And
the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto
thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do
to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt
of Saul's robe privily. And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote
him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. And he said unto his men, The LORD
forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to
stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.
Saul and his men were chasing David in the wilderness. David and his men went
into a cave to hide and to rest a little. But then Saul decided to go into the
same cave and sleep! David was pinned in! But David and his men kept real
quiet. Soon Saul and his guards were snoring. What a relief for David! And then
one of his men said, “Hey, David, God has delivered your enemy right into your
hands! This is your chance to kill Saul!” But David didn’t think so. David
respected Saul and was going to teach Saul a lesson. David snuck up and cut off
a piece of Saul’s robe. Then he and his men carefully snuck out of the cave.
When they were safely over on the other side of the valley, David called out waking
up Saul. David said, “Hey, Abner, you’d better do a better job of watching over
your king. Look what I’ve got in my hands.” And with that, David held up the
piece of Saul’s garment. Saul immediately knew that David had had the
opportunity to kill him if he had wanted to. And everyone else knew too! God
was with David and God protected David. Has God protected you recently? Let’s
talk about it.
