Daniel 3:28-30 Then
Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in
him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they
might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a
decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss
against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and
their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can
deliver after this sort. Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, in the province of Babylon. When God showed up in the furnace to
rescue Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, King Nebuchadnezzar became a believer.
But he wasn’t a true believer. He didn’t have a heart change. Oh he believed in
the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego because he actually saw Him right
there in the furnace. But Nebuchadnezzar didn’t repent. He didn’t turn from his
sin. He just had a head knowledge of God. And he soon forgot about God. God even
gave Nebuchadnezzar a third chance. Nebuchadnezzar had
another dream and Daniel interpreted it too. But Nebuchadnezzar still had his pride.
Just a year later, he lost his mind and crawled around like an animal for seven
years. His mind finally came back to him and once again, he believed in the God
of heaven. I don’t know if King Nebuchadnezzar really trusted in God. I hope he
did, but I just don’t know. What a sad ending for a king who had three golden opportunities.
Say, has God given you a chance to believe? He is doing so right now. Do you
believe? I’m glad if you do. And I’m praying for you if you haven’t yet. Why
not receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior right now. Don’t put it off like
Nebuchadnezzar. You may not be given three chances. This may be your last. Do
it now before it’s too late.
