I Samuel 10:17,20,
21, 24 And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh; And when
Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin
was taken. When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their
families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was
taken… And Samuel said to all the
people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among
all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king. Samuel
was aggravated with his people. They had not only rejected his leadership, they
had rejected God’s leadership. The people wanted a king. And God told Samuel to
go along with their request. So Samuel warned them and went ahead and looked
for God’s anointed king. But who was he? How would Samuel find him? After God
had led Samuel in a miraculous way, Samuel anointed Saul as king. Saul seemed
to be a good choice. He was good looking and tall like a king should be. And he
was humble. He wasn’t pushy and uppity. But would he be a good king? Only time
would tell.
