Traveling

The Lord has been good to me and my wife, allowing us to travel to many places both foreign and domestic.  But Kathy’s kidney failure has changed all of that.  I have made a few trips abroad, but not lately, and our trips within the US have become infrequent.  God allowed us to take a four-day trip to Panama City, Florida this past week, and it was a sweet get-away for Kathy.  She sat for hours on our tenth-floor balcony overlooking the beach, mesmerized by the ocean waves as they crashed onto the beach.  But the lure of travel can’t compare with the pull of home.  It is grand fun to taste fresh-caught fish and to drink in ocean-side sights, but nothing compares to sleeping in your own bed laying your head on your own pillow.  Solomon spoke of aging in Ecclesiastes 12:1-7.  Read this analogy sometime today, and you’ll be fascinated by his observations.  Solomon said in verse 5 that “man goeth to his long home.”  How poignant.  As we age, we yearn for the peace of our eternal home.  And, even if we live a long, long life, our final passage to our “long home” will come very soon.  My advice: make peace with your Maker early in your life and live your life in the light of eternity because you will live there a long, long time.
