John 5:9-11

John 5:9-11 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. When Jesus healed the impotent man and told him to take up his bed and walk, it was on the Sabbath day. The Jewish leaders were very strict about what the Jews could and could not do on the Sabbath day. So when they saw the man walking with his bed roll on the Sabbath day, they were shocked! “What are you doing working on the Sabbath day?” they demanded. But they didn’t think. Jesus was the one who had made the rule about the Sabbath day in the Old Testament – He was God. So Jesus could override the Sabbath day rule if He wanted to. After all, He was the one who had made the rule in the first place. If anyone had a question, the impotent man had it all figured out: The One who healed him was the same One who told him to take up his bed and walk. Jesus did the healing which proved that He had the power over the Sabbath day. Jesus was the man! He was God Himself!

John 5:5-8

John 5:5-8 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. Near Washington D.C. is a large Navy hospital. It is called Bethesda Naval Hospital. It is named after the pool mentioned in our verses for today. The tradition in Jesus’ time was that once a year an angel would come down to the pool of Bethesda and the first sick person into the waters after the angel stirred the waters would be healed of their illness. Many sick people would gather around the pool just waiting for the moment when the angel would move upon the waters. But this poor man did not have anyone to help him to get into the waters first. Every time that the angel moved the waters, someone else would get in before him and they would be healed, not him. This poor man didn’t know that Jesus didn’t need an angel. Jesus could make the impotent man whole any time He wanted to! Jesus was the Son of God and had the power over sickness and disease! And when Jesus told the man to rise, take up your bed and walk, he did! He stood up and, for the first time in 38 years, he was walking! Jesus not only had the power to heal, he loved the man and wanted to heal him. And don’t forget: Jesus still has the power and Jesus loves you!

John 4:47,49,50

John 4:47, 49, 50 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. Because Jesus had performed many miracles, His fame had grown. When the nobleman heard that Jesus was nearby, he immediately went to Him to get Jesus to heal his son. The son must have been seriously ill for the nobleman to come to Jesus. The religious leaders were against Jesus, and the noble man must have risked getting into trouble with them just by visiting Jesus. But he didn’t care. His little boy was more important to him than the approval of the religious leaders. He just had to do what he could to save his child. But Jesus didn’t even go to see the little sick boy. He only spoke the word that the boy would get well. And the noblemen believed Jesus. Because the noblemen had faith in Jesus, and because Jesus was the very Son of God, the little boy was made whole. Just like the nobleman, we too should believe in Jesus. Not just believe that He can do things for us, but that He is the Son of God. If we trust in Jesus, no matter what comes our way, everything will be all right.

John 4:35

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. When Jesus spoke to the woman of Samaria at the well, she was excited to hear of His living water that He talked about. But when she realized that Jesus was promising her eternal living water, she really got excited! She was so excited that she ran back into town to tell everyone about the good news of salvation that Jesus was telling about. When she ran into the city, she forgot her water pot – she just left it beside the well in all her excitement. As Jesus looked over the valley towards the city, He saw all of those white turbaned people coming out of the city to talk to Him about this eternal living water. It was too early for harvest time, but He told his disciples that the fields were ripe unto harvest a full four months early. That is because He wasn’t talking about the harvest of grain or grapes; He was talking about the harvest of souls. The harvest that Jesus was talking about was the people coming out to hear the good news of salvation that He had to offer to them. Just like Jesus, we need to be interested in the souls of people. And just like the excited woman of Samaria, we need to invite our friends to hear about Jesus and His gift of eternal living water – His gift of life!

John 4:24

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. In our verse for today, Jesus was explaining to the woman of Samaria that God the Father was a spirit. You cannot see God with your eyes. You cannot go to the Temple in Jerusalem – or anywhere else, for that matter – and see God. The woman had asked Jesus where was the right place to worship God? In Jerusalem where Jesus was going to or in Samaria, where the woman lived. But Jesus told her that neither place was the right place to worship God! He told her that she could pray to God and worship Him in her heart, right where they were!. That is the great thing about God: as a spirit, He can be anywhere on earth, and He can be right there with you! You will never be alone if you have the Lord in your heart. He will never leave you or forsake you.

John 4:13&14

John 4:13&14 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Jesus was traveling through Samaria on the way to Jerusalem and had stopped at a well for a break at noon. His disciples had gone into the city to buy some food while Jesus remained at the well to rest. A woman came to fill her water pot and Jesus asked her for a drink. The well was deep and Jesus did not have a rope or a water pot, so he had no way to get a drink. The woman gave him a drink. After He was satisfied, He met her spiritual need. The woman had been married and divorced five times and was living with a man without being married. She came out at noon to avoid the other women who came out early. She was embarrassed by their looks and sharp questions. But Jesus cared about her soul. Jesus offered her Living Water. She did not understand that Living Water was eternal life. Jesus explained all of that to her. The woman was thrilled that the Master cared for her, and she rushed back into the city to tell anyone who would listen that Jesus had the words of eternal life. Jesus loves all of us. Have you accepted His Living Water?
