John 3:18 He that
believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned
already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of
God. As our verse for yesterday stated, God did not send His Son into the
world to condemn us. Our verse for today says that we were already condemned.
Years ago I heard, “Ignorance of the law is no excuse.” That means that just
because we don’t know that something is a law, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t
guilty of breaking that law. When Jesus came down from heaven as God’s perfect
Son, He showed us that we were all sinners. But the point of our verse is that we were already sinners; we just didn’t know
it! Jesus example of a perfect life showed us that we were sinners – that
is the bad news. But His death on the cross made a way for us to be perfect
before God because Jesus could take our sins upon Himself – that is the good
news!
