John 3:30 He must
increase, but I must decrease. This is one of my favorite verses. We’ve
already talked about John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin and forerunner. John lived
in the wilderness and curious people came out to hear him preach. His honesty
spoke to many people and they repented and were baptized to demonstrate their
heart decision. Some people even thought that John himself was the Messiah. But
John pointed to Jesus as the true Messiah. Some troublemakers told John that
Jesus was becoming more popular than he was. Wasn’t he jealous? John replied
with our verse, He must increase, but I
must decrease. We must make more of Jesus and less of us. Jesus will be
happy and we will be happy too!
