I Corinthians 16:22

I Corinthians 16:22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha. The translators of the New Testament decided that the two words in our verse were too hard to translate, so they left them in their Greek form. This is called transliteration. The word baptize is the same; it is left in its Greek form, but we know what it means. The first word anathema means accursed or to annihilate or to be totally destroyed. So Paul is using a strong expression here for those who do not love Jesus Christ. Paul says to let them be accursed! The name and person of Jesus Christ is very important. It is so important that if you don’t love Jesus you will spend eternity separated from Him in hell fire. Pretty serious! And the flip side of anathema is the word Maranatha, which means “come, Lord Jesus”. And Maranatha fits right in with the last words of John in the book of Revelation: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” And Jesus will come back for us some day, very soon! So, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” or simply put, “Maranatha!”
