Mark 1:40-44 And
there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying
unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with
compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be
thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from
him, and he was cleansed. And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him
away; And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew
thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses
commanded, for a testimony unto them. There are two great lessons in our
verses for today. First we see the tremendous faith that the leper had. Leprosy
is an incurable disease, but this leper just knew that Jesus could heal him.
The leper had great faith, but that isn’t the main point. The leper had faith
in the Son of God. The point wasn’t his faith, the point was his faith in a
powerful Savior! Jesus had a great testimony before the leper, but soon Jesus
would have a great testimony before the priest. In Leviticus 14 were
instructions for what the priest was to do when a leper was healed. There were
several steps to go through. But the priests had never once gone through that
ceremony. Not one leper had been healed, because leprosy was incurable. So why
was the ceremony put there in Leviticus 14 by God? So that when Jesus came
along about 1500 years later, he would heal a leper and that leper needed the
ceremony so that the priest would know that Jesus was the promised Son of God!
What a wonderful story! And what a wonderful Savior!
