Numbers 13:27,28 …
We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk
and honey; and this is the fruit of it. Nevertheless the people be strong that
dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we
saw the children of Anak there. After the Children of Israel crossed over
the Red Sea and went through the wilderness, they came to the land that was
promised to them by God. Moses selected twelve spies to go in and check out the
land. They came back with wonderful stories. Two of the men had a single
cluster of grapes carried on a pole between them! What a fruitful land it was!
But the other ten spies were fearful as they told of giants who lived there.
They said, “We looked like grasshoppers in their eyes.” They frightened the
people so much that they began a rebellion to go back to Egypt! Imagine that! A
land so wonderful, but people so fearful! What a dilemma! God had to get rid of these fearful
folk. So God led the Children of Israel around in the wilderness for forty
years until the losers died off. The only ones left from that original group were Joshua and Caleb, the
two faithful spies. Now everyone was ready to go into the Promised Land. They
were ready to obey God.
