Numbers 16:31-33
And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that
the ground clave asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth,
and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto
Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, went down
alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from
among the congregation. Several of Aaron’s sons thought that they knew
better than Moses. They thought that they knew how to lead the people just as
well as Moses did. Why should Moses be the only one to boss everyone around?!
But Moses was following God’s orders and God was leading Moses. God was not
leading Korah or the men who followed him. So Moses proposed a test. The next
day, Korah and his followers were to bring an incense burner with their fire in
it and Moses would bring an incense burner with his fire in it. And on the
morrow, they did! Moses had his fire and Korah and the two hundred and fifty men
who followed him were on the other side. Moses warned the rebels, but they
would not back down. Then suddenly, the earth opened up and swallowed up the
men, their tents, and everything that they had! As they fell down and down and
down, the earth closed back up and they were just gone! God wasn’t messing
around! God doesn’t tolerate rebellion. Not back then, and not today. Rebellion
is a big deal with God, so don’t rebel! It didn’t end well for Korah and it will
not end well for you!
