Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? We all have jobs to do. The younger you are, the less responsibility you have. But even Greyson, who is four, has jobs to do. He has to pick up his toys. He was over at our house today and had little cars all over the floor. You would have thought that his mother was expecting the impossible when she made him pick up the cars. He grumbled and whined and finally picked them all up. But he is only four. Often, we whine to God. We don’t do what is expected of us. But God knows that we are only human. He knows just how much that we can bear. So what does God expect? He expects us to do right, to be kind, and to humbly serve our Maker. Is that too much to ask? I don’t think so. God has done so much for us that the very least that we should do is to serve Him right back. So, let’s just do it!

Micah 5:2

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Micah prophesied 700 years before Christ was born. But when the Wise men came from the East and asked King Herod where the baby Messiah should be born, Herod knew. Herod’s advisors told him that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem in Ephratah. They knew because they had read our verse for today! Micah 5:2 was written 700 years before Jesus was born, but this verse came to pass just as Micah had prophesied, God is on control of the universe and God is watching over you!

Obadiah 3

Obadiah 3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Obadiah is one of those little books with only one chapter. Obadiah reminded Israel that they couldn’t trust in their strategic position for safety. They should trust in God. A fortress on a high mountain may seem safe and secure, but safety can only be found in the Almighty. Obadiah reminds us that we need God too. He is our safety. We cannot depend on our money or talents or good looks (that’s for me) or clever answers. We must depend upon the Lord our God.
