John 6:26,27 Jesus
answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because
ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God
the Father sealed. Jesus had taken five small loaves of bread and two tiny
fish and multiplied them to feed several thousand people! Then He and his
disciples had gone to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. When they got to
the other side, the people had already run around to the other side to meet
them. They didn’t want to lose Jesus. But Jesus knew the real reason why they
had followed close after Him. They didn’t really want to hear His preaching;
they wanted some more of His free food. Jesus knew why they were following Him
and He reprimanded them. Jesus reminded them that physical food lasts for only
for a brief time. But spiritual food would last for eternity. Are we the same
way? Do we pray to God because we love Him? Or do we just pray to God when we
need Him to give us something? Do we love God or do we just love the things
that God gives to us? That is the question. If we love God, we will have the
things that God gives to us as well. But He
is the most important.
