John 6:53,54

John 6:53,54 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. These two verses seem pretty gross. These verses sound like vampires – although we know that vampires are not real. These verses are called figurative – they are a word picture that Jesus is showing us. Believer’s baptism is another picture that we use in church. In Romans 6:4 the Apostle Paul tells us that we are buried with Jesus in baptism. But when we are put under the water by the pastor in baptism, does he leave us under the water? I hope not! He brings us up out of the water! In Colossians 2:12 Paul says that we are also raised with Christ in baptism. So baptism is the picture that we are buried with Christ in His death and also that we will be raised with Christ in His resurrection some day. By accepting the death of Jesus – His blood and His body – we also accept His gift of eternal life – His resurrection. What a beautiful picture!
