Matthew 26:51,52
And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew
his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they
that take the sword shall perish with the sword. While Jesus was praying in
the Garden of Gethsemane, Judas and the Roman soldiers came to arrest Him. The
chief priests’ men were with them and were worked up into an angry mob. But
Peter was going to defend Jesus. He pulled out his sword and swung at the
nearest person: Malchus, the high
priest’s servant. Malchus dodged to avoid Peter cutting off his head, and Peter
just caught his ear. Jesus immediately stepped in calming Peter. “Put away your
sword, Peter,” Jesus said. And then Jesus bent down, picked up Malchus’ ear,
and put it back on his head where it belonged! What a miracle! The mob was
stunned! Jesus quietly surrendered to the soldiers and was led away. He wasn’t
afraid. He was doing exactly what He had planned to do all along. Even when He
was arrested, Jesus was still in control.
