Matthew 27:1,2

Matthew 27:1,2 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. When Jesus was arrested, He was taken to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest. After a mock trial, Jesus was sent to Pilate, the Roman governor for judgement. The Jews wanted to put Jesus to death, but only the Romans had that power. But after Pilate examined Jesus, he found him not guilty. When Pilate heard that Jesus was from Galilee, he sent Him to Herod, the king of Galilee. But Herod found no fault in Jesus and sent Him back to Pilate. Pilate tried to get Jesus released, but the Jewish leaders threatened to whine to Caesar. So Pilate had Jesus whipped, trying one last time to appeal to the Jews’ sympathy. But, nothing doing. They demanded Jesus’ execution, and Pilate gave in. So Jesus was led away to be crucified, an innocent man, and everyone knew it. Does that seem fair? And then Jesus, the innocent Son of God, died for our sins on the cross. Again, does that seem fair? But He did! He knew exactly what He was doing because He was the One who planned it all. Jesus died on purpose so that we might live with Him in heaven forever.  What love!
