I Kings 22:37 So (King
Ahab) died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
Ahab was a wicked king. But just before he died, God Elijah to warn him. Isn’t
that just like God to give, even a wicked man, one more chance to repent? And
King Ahab took the warning to heart! He ripped his clothes to indicate that he
was repentant. He put off his kingly robes and put on old rough burlap and ate
only simple bread and water. God told Elijah to tell Ahab that God would not
punish him, but would forgive his sin. But Jezebel would hear none of it. She
remained evil right up until the end. And what a terrible end it was! When the
new king, Jehu, came into the city of Samaria, Jezebel put on her make-up and
jewelry trying to wow Jehu. She came to the palace window trying her feminine
charm on Jehu. But it didn’t work. Jehu knew her evil past and judged her for
her murders and tortures. Jehu’s men threw Jezebel out of the upstairs window
and her evil days were over. Ahab died with honor, but Jezebel died with shame.
