II Kings 4:8 And it
fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she
constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he
turned in thither to eat bread. Elisha traveled through Shunem often and
when he did, he stopped in and ate a meal with two friends. One day as he left,
the woman said to her husband, “This is a prophet of God and a good man. I
think we should build him a little room above the house so that he can stay
with us whenever he passes through Shunem.” And so they did. The room was small
but comfy. It had a bed and a table and a stool and a candlestick for light. It
was everything that he needed. What a kind, thoughtful woman. She saw a need
and did what she could to take care of the need! We should be like that fine
woman of Shunem. We should look for ways to help God’s servants. Preachers;
missionaries; traveling evangelists. Just anyone that we think could use a bit
of encouragement. It could be a place to sleep, like Elisha. Or it could be a
tank of gas to help them on their way. It could be a meal or a little money in
their pocket. We should be like the Shunamite woman. Look. Think. Pray. God
will direct you to help His people. They will be blessed and you will be
blessed!
