II Kings 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. Elijah was discouraged and asked God to take him on to heaven. So Elijah passed his prophetic responsibilities on to his assistant, Elisha. Elijah told Elisha that he would grant him a parting request. And, just like Solomon many years earlier, Elisha asked for a good thing. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s blessing upon his life. And God granted the request. There are twice as many miracles recorded by Elisha as by Elijah. God was with both men in a mighty way.
