I Chronicles
26:1,20 Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was
Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph. And of the Levites, Ahijah
was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the
dedicated things. King David had the priests and Levites organized to make
their ministries operate efficiently. He also organized the gatekeepers and the
treasurers. The gatekeepers were very important. Jerusalem had to be secure. In
order to keep spies and crooks out of town, the gates were closed at sundown
and opened again at sunrise. Any gatekeeper who let someone in after hours
could lose his life! His job was that important! And the treasurers had
important jobs too! Can you imagine keeping up with all of the gold and silver
in the house of God?! Every single spoon and cup had to be accounted for. So
King David organized the treasurers to oversee God’s things. As you can see, no
job was unimportant during David’s reign as king. And no job is unimportant in
your church too. So, if you have a job, even a little one, do it to the best of
your ability. Do the best that you can - for God!
This is a blog that I have created for my 5 grandchildren. I have a daily Scripture verse or two along with comments and questions. Hope this encourages young people to read in their Bible every day and to meditate on God's Word.

I Chronicles 25:1
I Chronicles 25:1
Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the
sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps,
with psalteries, and with cymbals … David wrote many Psalms. A psalm is a
song. The word, prophesy, in the Old Testament means to preach. So David
appointed singers who were to preach with their singing. And that’s really what
good singing should do: a gospel song should preach the Gospel! A hymn should
praise the name of the Lord! Good music is not just a catchy tune; good music
should move the heart and speak to the mind. Good music is good preaching.

I Chronicles 23:1,4-6
I Chronicles
23:1,4-6, So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king
over Israel. And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the
priests and the Levites. Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward
the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:
Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with
the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith. And David
divided them into courses among the sons of Levi … King David was an army
general and he was great at organization. He had his army organized with
captains over hundreds and leaders over them. David organized the priests by
course. He had 24 different courses so that each priest served about two weeks
each year. The priests weren’t lazy, they had much preparation for that two
week duty. They were like our astronauts who prepare for years just for a two
week space shuttle mission. David organized the porters, who were the
doorkeepers at the Temple-to-be. David had traveling judges to settle disputes
around the country. And, Because David himself was a musician, David appointed
singers and instrument players to make music before the Lord. God was pleased with David’s organization. David
made sure that everything ran smoothly at God’s house.
