I Chronicles
17:11,12 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go
to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall
be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build me an house,
and I will stablish his throne for ever. David felt guilty that he had a
nice palace while the Ark of the Lord was only in a tent, the Tabernacle. But
God had to remind David that he was a warrior king. David had to fight many
battles killing many enemies to make his kingdom secure. God did not want a
warrior to build Him a house; God wanted a king of peace to build His house. So
David collected gold and silver and sweet-smelling cedar wood in abundance in
preparation to build a house for God. It was Solomon, David’s son, who built
the Temple in Jerusalem. Solomon was able to get busy building the Temple
quickly because his father, David, had stockpiled wonderful building materials.
And David was content to know that his sons and grandsons and so on would be
kings forever and forever. After all, Jesus was a descendant of King David! And
Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. What a great descendant
indeed!
