II Kings 19:1,5-7
And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and
covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. So the
servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall
ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which
thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed
me. Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall
return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own
land. Sennacherib, king of Assyria, attacked Judah and took many cities for
himself. Hezekiah sent gifts of gold and silver to try to calm him. But it
didn’t work. Sennacherib wanted it all! He sent his captain, Rabshakeh to
surround and lay siege to Jerusalem. Rabshakeh warned the Jews that he would
destroy everything if they didn’t surrender to him right away. Hezekiah was in
a hard place. What was he to do? So he went to God with his problems. A good
idea, don’t you think? Isaiah told Hezekiah not to worry; God would take care
of Sennacherib. And he did! The next morning when the sun came up, Sennacherib
found his entire army was dead! The angel of the Lord had killed 185,000
soldiers that night. When Sennacherib went through his camp that morning, he found
only dead corpses in their beds in camp! Sennacherib went back to Nineveh and
was assassinated by two of his own sons. God takes care of His own!
