II Kings 12:9,10
But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and
set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the
LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was
brought into the house of the LORD. And it was so, when they saw that there was
much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up,
and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the
LORD. King Jehoash wanted the Temple to be kept up. The house of God is
special and should look good. So that everyone would know that their gifts were
used wisely, Jehoiada made a sealed chest with only a small hole in the top of
it - sort of like a piggy bank. And when the chest got heavy with offerings, he
opened it up - in the presence of several witnesses - and counted the money and
posted the amount so that everyone would know that things were being done
honestly. The money went to faithful repairmen who did the work. If your offering
is used wisely, you will be confident in your giving. Good advice then, and
good advice now.
