I Chronicles 19:18, 19

I Chronicles 19:18,19 But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host. And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more. While David and his army were fighting the Ammonites in the East, the Syrians to the North thought it would be a good time to attack. But they were mistaken. They didn’t count on God watching over David. David’s captain, Joab, divided his army and put his brother, Abishai, in charge of half. So when Abishai defeated the Ammonites, the Syrians fled. Joab sent word to David and he brought reinforcements from Jerusalem, and David, Joab, and Abishai together ran off the Syrians. God established David’s kingdom and David’s reputation as a great warrior spread. The Syrians and the Ammonites learned a good lesson.
