When I was in college, I signed up for the Longines Symphonette “Album of the Month.” A big mistake. As a free introductory gift, I received the greatest symphonies, the greatest show tunes, and the greatest marches of all time. The only thing that I had to do was to buy three albums over the next twelve months. They conveniently (for them) sent me a monthly newsletter listing the albums available for purchase. I had to make my choice on the enclosed key punch card and then return it by mail. The problem was I had to pay the postage and return the card by the specified date. As a poor/busy college student, that seldom happened, and I received the album of their choice, not mine. So, my collection grew with LP’s that I didn’t want … along with bills that I couldn’t pay. But I got my revenge: I began punching random holes in the key cards with a pencil before I sent the cards back to their office. I smugly thought of the havoc that I was creating at the office of the Longines Symphonette. I soon stopped receiving communication from the Longines Symphonette. Hey, times have changed! Pictured in 1966 are stacks of 62,500 key cards that contain 5 MB of information. I have flash drives that hold 3,200 times that amount costing only a few dollars! What power I now have at my fingertips! But there is a source of power much greater than all the flash drives in the whole world! Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” What a wonderful promise! Hey, have you accessed that power? Don’t miss out on the power of the blessed Holy Spirit … the power to redeem a soul and the power to transform a life!
