The Old Paths

I like my old clothes.  I like my old sheepskin-lined slippers and my work boots because my bunions and toes and heels and arches have worn bald spots om them until my feet feel hugged in them.  I like my old jeans and my old tee shirts.  They just have that broken-in feeling.  And call me old-fashioned, but I like the old ways at church.  I like the old-school hymns that have stood the test of time.  I like the old praise choruses sung by the congregation of old people who have loved the Lord for fifty years.  I like the old specials sung by Brothers and Sisters over and over again.  They bless my soul.  Jeremiah 6:16, “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls …”  But that’s not all of the verse.  There is an indictment in the end of that very verse: “… But they said, We will not walk therein.”  Today, you have a choice to walk in the old ways of the Lord or not to.  But as you choose, choose carefully, because consequences come with each choice.  And you do not choose the consequences; the consequences just come with your choice.
