Nehemiah 7:62-64

Nehemiah 7:62-64 The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two. And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name. These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood. These six families were outsiders who tried to sneak into Jerusalem pretending that they were really Jews. But Nehemiah had a list of those who were true Jewish descendants and they weren’t on the list. Tobiah tried one last time to get into Jerusalem. But he couldn’t. He was finally booted out. God was keeping His people pure and free from wicked outsiders. Even three of the priest’s families were polluted. God had strict rules for the priests. When the priests disobeyed God’s laws, they gave up their right to be a priest. God expected them to be obedient. God expected the priests, of all people, to set a good example to the other people. God expects us to set a good example too. Others are watching us. Obey God and follow His Word.
