Matthew 3:13-17

Matthew 3:13-17 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. John knew that Jesus was the promised Messiah. But Jesus wanted to set a good example for all who would believe. Jesus had John to baptize him. John was reluctant, but obeyed Jesus. And as Jesus came up out of the water, God the Father gave His approval in something seen and something heard: The Holy Spirit came down upon Jesus like a dove and a voice of approval sounded from the Father. People were watching and listening. And I am sure they believed that Jesus was the coming Messiah. John had completed his job. And John said about Jesus in John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Well said, John! We should talk more about Jesus and less of ourselves.
