I Corinthiand 2:1-5

I Corinthians 2:1-5 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Years ago, my wife and I went to one of those evening parties where a salesman cooked a dinner and then sold the cookware that he had used. We loved the food and it was prepared nutritiously. We bought the set and were pleased. But the next day, I began to think. I wasn’t making much money, Kathy was a stay-at-home mom, and had just bought a set of pots and pans for $1,500. The cookware cost so much that we wouldn’t have enough money to buy the food to go in them! So I cancelled the order and got out of the purchase. Looking back on the whole event, I realized that I had been taken advantage of by a great salesman. He had talked me into buying something that I really didn’t want. In our verses for today, Paul said that he was not going to be like that salesman. Paul knew that he was clever enough to talk the people of Corinth into becoming Christians. But the next day or week, they would wake up and realize that they had just been talked into something. But being a Christian is a commitment. You must think it over and you must realize what you are getting into. Your decision to become a Christian must be between you and the Holy Spirit. He must convict you of your sin and you must be sincere in repenting of your sins. Then, and only then, will you be born again into God’s forever family. It is not something that you should be talked into – it is something that you must do knowing exactly what you are doing. We are saved not by wisdom of words; we are saved by the power of God! Are you saved? I hope so.
