Hebrews 12:15
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of
bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; God has
saved us by His marvelous grace. Our salvation depends only of Jesus Christ and
the Blessed Holy Spirit. But the Christian life depends upon us surrendering
ourselves to the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 12:1 that
we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. That surrender of ourselves
is by ourselves. But we still have these fleshly bodies that we live in. We are
daily tempted by the world, the flesh, and the devil. And our verse reminds us
that we can get bitter if we are not careful. And bitterness begins deep inside
of us where no one can see. It is like a root under the ground. It is there,
but we can’t see it. So the writer of Hebrews reminds us to watch out for that
root of bitterness. Stop it! pull it up and get rid of it! Keep that root of
bitterness out of the garden of your life!
