Leviticus 4:22-24
When a ruler hath sinned, and done somewhat through ignorance against any of
the commandments of the LORD his God concerning things which should not be
done, and is guilty; Or if his sin, wherein he hath sinned, come to his
knowledge; he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a male without
blemish: And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat, and kill it in
the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD: it is a sin
offering. In our verses, there are two kinds of sins: sins that you know
that you do and sins that you don’t know that you so. Or I could say it a
different way: there are sins that you shouldn’t do and there are sins that you
do when you fail to do the right thing. In both of these cases, you have done
wrong. And in our verses, when the ruler sins – either doing the wrong thing or
neglecting to do the right thing - the sacrifice is the same: a kid goat that
is perfect. And the ruler who is bringing the sacrifice is to lay his hands
upon the head of the goat, indicating that the goat is dying in the ruler’s
place. And what a great picture of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for us. Jesus
died in our place. He died for us. And just like the kid goat had to be without
blemish, Jesus Christ was God’s perfect Lamb of God. Jesus died for us. Thank
you, Jesus Christ!
