Leviticus 6:14,16
And this is the law of the meat offering: the sons of Aaron shall offer it before
the LORD, before the altar. And the remainder thereof shall Aaron and his sons
eat: with unleavened bread shall it be eaten in the holy place; in the court of
the tabernacle of the congregation they shall eat it. When the twelve
tribes of Israel entered the Promised Land, they divided up the land among
themselves. That is except the Levites. So there were eleven divisions. But
Joseph had two sons and God gave each of them a portion, giving Joseph two
portions, bringing the total back up to twelve portions once again. So what
about the tribe of Levi? What was the job of the Levites? That’s right, the
Levites were the priests who were dispersed among the other twelve tribes. The
Levites were all over Israel so that they could be near the people and could
teach them about God. But where did the Levites get their food? Our verses tell
us. When the people would bring their meat offering to the Lord, the Levites
would offer it to God, but a portion of the offering was reserved for the
Levites to use as teir food. The offering was holy to God and the Levites were
holy to God, so the Levites could use part of the offering. God took care of
the Levites, who took care of the Tabernacle. That is one reason that we take
care of our preacher. Take care of the man of God. He works for us and on our
behalf.
