Joshua 1:7 Only be
thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to
all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the
right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua was Moses’ assistant for many years. Other than Moses, Joshua and Caleb
were the only old timers who were around after the forty years of wandering in
the wilderness. I’m sure that Joshua was nervous about taking over the people.
They had an upcoming invasion, and his people were not warriors. At least not
yet. But Joshua had three good sources of encouragement. Moses had given him
great advice. And Moses had written the first five books of the Bible as they
had been given to him by other documents and by inspiration of the Spirit of
God. And thirdly, Joshua had God to lead him. He had the blessed Holy Spirit
directing his heart and mind. So, with those supporters, Joshua was ready. So
he sucked up his fears and put on his big boy pants and led Israel to defeat
the enemy. A good example for us!
