Joshua 3:7 And the
LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of
all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with
thee. God promised Joshua that He would be with him just as He had been
with Moses. God wanted the people to respect Joshua so that they would follow
his leadership. But God needed Joshua to follow Him as well. God told Joshua to
prepare the men for battle and to get the people ready to march forward. But
they were blocked by the river Jordan – and it was at flood stage! God was
testing the people, God was testing the priests, and God was testing Joshua.
Joshua commanded the priests bearing the Ark of the Covenant to march forward.
The moment that their feet touched the muddy Jordan River, the waters parted
and the priests walked on dry ground. The waters piled up on each side just as
the Red Sea had divided for Moses, forty years earlier. but only Joshua and
Caleb were old enough to remember that great miracle. Now everyone saw clearly
that God was with Joshua. God honored Joshua for his obedience. May we obey God
as well - is my prayer.
