Leviticus 16:2,34
And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at
all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is
upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy
seat. And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for
the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. God is holy. That
means that God cannot abide any sin. So, do you think that Aaron or his sons
were perfectly holy? Absolutely not! When the high priest went into the Holy of
Holies once a year, his first step was to offer a sacrifice for his own sins.
And only after his sins were covered was he able to bring the sacrifice into
the Holy of Holies for the sins of the other people. But priests had to enter
the Tabernacle several times a day. They had to change out the twelve loaves of
bread; they had to put oil in the golden candlestick; they had to put new
incense on the sweet-smelling altar of incense. So to keep these priests safe,
God told Moses to have Aaron to make a curtain to separate God’s Holy place
from the rest of the Tabernacle so that a sin-stained priest would not come
near God’s Holy of Holies and die. God is pure. We have no idea how pure God
really is! But on the other side, God is also loving and forgiving. God wants
us to be pure too. But we can only be pure when we stand forgiven by the
sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is only by Jesus that we can become pure. We need
Jesus.
