Leviticus 25:35-37,39,40

Leviticus 25:35-37,39,40 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee. Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase. And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant: But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubilee. God cares about the poor. A man might be poor for one of several reasons. He or a family member may have a prolonged sickness. He may have a poor homestead that simply doesn’t produce well. There may be a famine or drought that he wasn’t prepared for. Or he may be just a poor farmer or businessman. But whatever the reason, God said to have compassion for him. You should give him money, not loan him money and make a profit on him. You should give him food without keeping a record of your gifts. If he is in a difficult situation, you should buy him, give him the purchase money, and then give him a job in your household. You shouldn’t treat him like a slave, but as a hired hand. And then on the year of jubilee, set him free with a grubstake to get him started once again. God wants us not to take advantage of a brother but to help him and treat him as a brother. Remember, God is watching!
