Leaning

Years ago, I read that if you have both seed and water, the birds will come.  And I found it true.  I have two birdfeeders, a suet holder, and a fountain with bubbling water.  But before I built my in-ground fountain, I had a concrete birdbath.  I made handprints of my grandchildren and cast them into the heavy concrete top of the birdbath.  Then I made an artsy-looking base.  The hardest part was getting the heavy thing to the back yard.  I was careful when I set it to make sure that it was plumb.  But over the past 12 years, gravity and downhill have been silently working on my birdbath.  And yesterday, I noticed that my birdbath was leaning.  And if left unchecked, gravity and downhill will eventually cause my birdbath to fall over.  Hey, there are unseen spiritual forces at work in my life too.  Complacency wears me down and I share fewer and fewer tracts with folk.  Laziness sets in and I don’t study my Bible like I used to.  Weariness sends me to bed early and gets me up late and I fail to pray for you like I want to.  Forgetfulness causes me to neglect my memory verse cards.  Hey, I’m attacking today with a new fire.  I’m going to do important things first and fun stuff later.  So, I’m talking to the dear Lord, I’m reading His Word, and I’m praying for you.  David said in Psalm 63:1, “ O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.”  Good words, David, good words.
