The Dishwasher

This Sunday morning, I enjoyed emptying the dishwasher.  My daughter and granddaughter had come into town for my granddaughter’s baby shower (thank you to Nickie for hosting it).  Other family members were over Friday night for an impromptu gathering.  That’s what family does, you know.  They just show up with pizza boxes, or Jack’s bags or a Taco Bell “Big Box”.  Their choice of one of my Christmas coffee cups showed their originality.  One grandson likes to use the glass cowboy boot for his sweet tea.  Even the spoons were picked with memories.  One with a Melmac handle was my mother’s; two old silver spoons belonged to Aunt Sophie.  Drinking glasses had been collected from various Christmases past.  The peeler reminded me of the relish tray prepared for the party.  Sharp knives used to chop broccoli and cauliflower florets, cantaloupe and pineapple chunks.  Scissors were washed after clipping grape bunches into smaller clusters.  I felt like a happy detective recreating the events represented in the dishwasher.  Hey, family is important.  Paul reminded young Timothy of his Godly heritage in II Timothy 1:5, “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”  As I continue to teach my children, grandchildren, and soon-to-be great-grandchildren, may I teach them the faithfulness of God.  For He alone is worthy of praise.  Hey, join me in remembering the past while looking forward to the future.
