Acts 18:1-4

Acts 18:1-4  After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth; And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them. And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers. And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. Paul was a Jew and a Christian. So when he came to Corinth, he contacted the Jewish community and found work there to do. Paul was a tent maker, so he began working with Aquila, a Jew and a tent maker like himself. Aquila and his wife, Priscilla, had been expelled from Rome just because they were Jews. The Jews were persecuted because they didn’t worship the Roman emperor as a god. The Jews worshiped the God of the Old Testament and would not worship the emperor. And then Paul was persecuted because he worshiped Jesus Christ the Jewish Messiah. So the Jews persecuted Paul. Aquila and Priscilla could understand Paul’s situation because they too were persecuted. So Paul stayed with them and worked with them. Priscilla and Aquila became believers in Jesus Christ and started a church in their house. They are mentioned several times in the New Testament in Paul’s letters to other churches. It’s great to have good Christian friends. Do you have any good Christian friends who help you to be a better Christian? Let’s pray for them tonight.
