I John 2:15,16

I John 2:15,16 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Here in our verses for today the old apostle John tells us that there are two opposites. We can choose one or the other – we cannot choose both. God is on one side and the world is on the other. We might ask, “But what is wrong with the world? We have to eat and drink to live. We have to wear clothes. We have to get along with other people. What is so bad about those things?” Well actually there isn’t anything bad with the world – It is just wrong to love the world above loving God. We should put God first in our lives. We have to eat and drink, but should we be drunk and out of control? No. We need clothes to wear, but should our clothes be our focus? Should God be embarrassed with the clothes that we choose? Should our entire lives be focused on our work and our house and our car and our things? Or should we work to live and put God first in our lives? That is the choice that we have to make. Is God first in our lives or is the world first?
