I John 4:1

I John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. The apostle John is reminding us that not everyone is truthful. And not every preacher is preaching the truth. That is why there are many, many churches in your town. One church and their pastor says, “We are telling you the truth. Listen to us.” But guess what the next church and preacher down the road is saying? He is saying, “We are telling you the truth. Listen to us.” Well, not everyone is right. Someone is not telling the truth. Our verse tells us to test the church and test the preacher and see if they are, in fact, telling the truth. But how do we know if they are telling the truth? We know that they are telling the truth if they are teaching from the Bible. If they teach what the Bible says, they are true; If they teach their opinion, they are false.  We will learn more tomorrow.
