I John 2:17

I John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Some things last a long time and others just last for a brief time. How long does a paper plate last? Only as long as we need it to eat a hot dog at a picnic. And then we throw it away. But what about a special necklace that we get at Christmas? It lasts for a long, long time. We take good care of it and keep it in a safe place. Our necklace is made of gold that never rusts. It will look just as good in ten years as it does now. That is what our verse is saying. Things of this world will not last. Like the paper plate, things of this earth will fade away and ultimately be destroyed. But like our gold necklace, the things of God are eternal. They will last forever. And forever is a long, long time.
